Wales Women beaten 3-0 by Canada

Wales Women were beaten 3-0 by Canada at Leckwith Stadium on Friday night, in manager Gemma Grainger’s first game in charge.

Canada – ranked eighth in the world – took the lead midway through the first half, as Quinn played in Deanne Rose who fired a powerful shot past Laura O’Sullivan.

Kayleigh Green came close to levelling shortly after, before the visitors lost captain Christine Sinclair to injury.

Shelina Zadorsky went narrowly close to the interval but substitute Evelyn Viens did double the advantage from close-range just before the hour mark.

Wales threatened a goal back as Rachel Rowe and debutant Ceri Holland delivered dangerous crosses but Canada’s Jessie Fleming completed the scoring on 62 minutes, with a curling effort from 25 yards.

Wales are beck in friendly action again against Denmark on Tuesday 13 April, 7.15pm kick off, live on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport Website.
