Glasgow City have made their first signings for the forthcoming SWPL season, as former Scotland youth internationals Kirsty Howat and Donna Paterson join the reigning champions.
Forward Howat joins from Celtic, with central defender Paterson moving from Aberdeen.
On joining Glasgow City, Howat told the club’s website, “I am looking forward to a new challenge and to surround myself and play alongside some of the best players in the country.”
Head Coach Scott Booth said, “Players who can play anywhere across the front line can be difficult to come by so it’s great to be able to announce our signing of Kirsty Howat. She has proved over recent years in our top league that she can adapt to different situations while showing her quality. We believe she still has massive potential to improve and score a lot of goals for Glasgow City. We will all look forward to her continued development.”
Nineteen year old Paterson, who played alongside Howat in Scotland U-19s was delighted to make the move to City. She said, “I am excited to be joining Glasgow City. It is a club who has been at the top for so many years and I am looking forward to working hard to improve my game and doing my best for the side.”
On signing Paterson, Scott Booth said, “Donna impressed us in the last campaign and has shown real ambition by moving south to further her career in Glasgow. She is a strong central defender who is excellent in the tackle and in the air. She is also technically efficient which suits Glasgow City’s style. I’m looking forward to seeing her develop into a top Scottish centre back.”
