Glasgow City start their UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign on Thursday as they host Roma live on BBC ALBA & BBC iPlayer.

Eileen Gleeson’s side must defeat Roma to have any chance of progressing in the tournament. If they are victorious, their next Champions League fixture on 21 August (tie to be determined) will be for a place in the second round.

News of this latest live fixture follows last week’s announcement that BBC ALBA will broadcast 26 live games this season from the new Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL). The move further cements BBC ALBA as the home of Scottish women’s sport.

City manager Eileen Gleeson is pleased with the coverage the women’s game is getting in Scotland from BBC ALBA. She said: “I’m delighted that BBC ALBA have committed to showing Glasgow City’s UEFA Women’s Champions League fixture against Roma.

“As always, BBC ALBA show real support to Scottish women’s football with their coverage of league and cup fixtures and it’s great that this has been extended to the UEFA Women’s Champions League.”

The City squad are looking forward to their Champions League campaign, and are hoping that home advantage will play its part in this fixture.

Defender Jenna Clark said: “As a team we are obviously really looking forward to playing Roma. It makes it more special that it’s at Petershill, considering the big games we’ve had there in the past. I can’t wait for a night under the lights at the Peasy!”

Scotland international Abbi Grant echoed the thoughts of her teammate. She added: “The Champions League is something that we all look forward to and I have had some great times in this competition. Hopefully we can get as many fans as possible up at Petershill to support us.”

Glasgow City take on Roma, this Thursday (18 August) live on BBC ALBA and BBC iPlayer. Kick-off is 7.35pm, with coverage starting at 7.25pm.
