Chelsea began their pre-season warm-up games in the heat of the south of France, losing both French Cup games to Montpellier and Bayern Munich.

Guro Reiten scored on her Chelsea debut with Maren Mjelde also finding the net, as the Blues suffered ‘a frustrating 5-2 loss’ to Montpellier.

Their second game saw them 3-0 down before the break against a much more prepared Bayern Munich side, who are just a week away the start of the Frauen Bundesliga season.

Lineth Beerensteyn and Jovana Damnjanovic scored in the first half, with a Millie Bright own-goal in-between

Beerensteyn netted the two second-half goals meaning the Dutch midfielder took the match ball back to Munich with her.

Bethany England went closest to pulling a goal back after being played in by Fran Kirby but was narrowly off target.

Chelsea next travel to Tel-Aviv to face the Israeli women’s national team on 20 August at the Ha-Moshava Stadium.
