City sink Celtic
Glasgow City bounced back from their Champions League disappointment to defeat Celtic 4-0 and stay top of the league.
Leanne Ross converted a penalty in the 4th minute and City got their second midway through the half, as Noelle Murray slotted home after Katie McCabe and Jo Love combined well.
It was 3-0 early in the second half, Abbi Grant netting after a one-two in the box and Leanne Crichton completed the scoring on 65 minutes after a cutback from McCabe.
Glasgow City Head Coach Scott Booth said, “I am delighted with the three points. I am also really pleased with what I thought was one of the most professional performances we have given since I came to the club. We were really focused, played good football, were organised and had to dig deep given we put so much into Thursday’s European game.
Hibs hit seven in send off for Roberts
Hibernian thrashed Aberdeen 7-2 away in Chris Roberts final game in charge, before joining Bristol City.
Abi Harrison scored through the keeper’s legs at the near post after just 2 minutes but Aberdeen quickly drew level direct from a free-kick.
Rachel McLauchlan played in Harrison for her second goal and Joelle Murray’s deep free-kick was headed in by Lucy Graham for 3-1, with the Dons replying with a fantastic finish before the break.
Hibs then got clear of their hosts as Amy Gallacher’s corner was turned in by Murray and Cailin Michie drove home from the edge of the box.
McLauchlan crossed for Gallacher to head into the bottom corner and then scored herself after Lisa Robertson’s strike was parried but Harrison was denied her hat-trick by the crossbar.
Stirling challenging for third spot
Stirling University are only a point behind third-placed Celtic, having got the only goal of the game at Hamilton Academical.
The decisive moment came just after the hour mark, as Rachel Donaldson’s high cross found Nicole Pullar, whose header was parried by the keeper for her to make no mistake with rebound.
Rangers fightback rocks Spartans
Rangers scored three times in the last 35 minutes as they came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Spartans and move within two points of their fifth-placed hosts.
Simone McMahon scored 4 minutes in for Spartans and just as early in the second half, Ronaigh Douglas doubled the lead.
Brogan Hay assisted as Chelsie Watson got the Gers back in the game and then scored on her debut as Watson’s free kick fell kindly for her.
The winner came 14 minutes from time, as Clare Gemmell floated the ball over the Spartans keeper.
Forfar seal top flight return
Forfar Farmington secured the SWPL 2 title with three games to spare, after a 5-1 win over challengers Motherwell. Danni McGinley eased any Forfar nerves with the first of her hat-trick on 6 minutes. Caroline Heron made it 2-0 after only 10 minutes, Julia Scott netting on 36 minutes and the visitors only getting a very late consolation.
Third in the table Glasgow Girls went down 2-1 at Edinburgh University Hutchison Vale., who had fallen behind early in the second half. Hume levelled on 62 minutes and Nichola Sturrock netted the second 8 minutes later, after earlier hitting the post.
Jeanfield Swifts ended East Fife’s recent revival with five unanswered goals, Amy Henderson’s first-half brace setting them on their way. Niamh Irvine and Jade MacDonald added one each, before Henderson got her third.
Hearts sank basement side Buchan 7-0, having gone in three goals to the good at the interval against visitors who only travelled with ten players.
