Thais take some consolation
It was a second clear defeat for Thailand after again trailing 3-0 at half time but a spirited second period saw their captain pull a goal back.
Linda Rembrandt headed Sweden in front just 5 minutes in, Kosovare Asllani doubled the lead when Waraporn Boonsing failed to quite turn the ball out of play, the keeper then only able to push a Fridolina Rolfo strike into the top corner on 42 minutes.
Lina Hurtig headed home powerfully in the last 10 minutes and Kanjana Sung-Ngoen was sent away to beat Hedvig Lindahl on her near post, only for her side to concede a VAR handball penalty, which was buried by Elin Rubensson with the last kick of the match.
Chile check US goal-glut
The USA had made sure of their place in the knockout stages by the break but Chile held them to a goalless second 45 in front of a crowd exceeding 45,000.
Carli Lloyd’s half-volley soon opened the scoring, Julie Ertz powerfully headed in from a corner and then Lloyd got her second when nodding home another flag-kick.
Endler made a string of five saves, while the woodwork also came to Chile’s rescue after the interval and Lloyd missed out on a World Cup hat-trick when putting a penalty wide.
