The England versus Scotland group game at the FIFA Women’s World Cup on Sunday was the UK’s most watched women’s football match of all time.
The BBC reports a peak of 6.1 million viewers across its television channels, that is more than 50% higher than the record of two years ago.
The figure – 37.8% of the available audience – breaks the previous record of 4 million viewers for the Lionesses’ Euro 2017 semi-final against the Netherlands.
England’s next match on Friday against Argentina is live on BBC One at 8pm, while Scotland’s 2pm kick off with Japan is on BBC One and BBC ALBA.
