Manchester United went top of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League with a narrow win away to Tottenham Hotspur.

Millie Turner got the only goal with a header from a corner in the 67th minute, sending her side into first place ahead of Sunday’s fixtures.

Katie Zelem had a great chance to score in the opening seconds for United but headed well wide.

Tottenham’s Rosella Ayane was also off target with a good opportunity, which came following a defensive error.

Tobin Heath had a shot blocked by the legs of Becky Spencer, the Spurs’ keeper also turning over a good strike from Zelem.

Midway through the second half, Alessia Russo forced a corner from Spencer’s save and from the resulting set-piece, Millie Turner’s far-post header dropped into the opposite corner of the net.

The hosts had a late chance for a leveller but Siri Worm curled her free-kick wide.
