Southampton FC have reached the FA Women’s National League Cup semi-finals at their first attempt after winning away to south coast rivals Portsmouth.
In front of 458 spectators at Gosport Borough’s Privett Park, Jade Bradley went close for the hosts before Ella Pusey gave the Saints a 14th-minute lead.
While Charmaine True and again Bradley threatened for Pompey, it was the lower division side who got the second goal with Pusey doubling her tally for the evening.
Substitute Molly Clark fired just wide and Laura Ingram hit the crossbar, as a Portsmouth side that has been plagued by postponements this season tried but failed to find a way back into the tie.
The league newcomers will now visit Northern Premier Division leaders Sunderland for a place on the final.
