Stoke City went third in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division with a 4-0 win away to West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday evening.

The Potters set themselves up nicely for Sunday’s tough test at leaders Sunderland with three goals from Faye McCoy and one by Amy Hughes as they edged ahead of Nottingham Forest on goal-difference.

The Baggies had the ball in the net first but the goal was disallowed and then McCoy’s looping header gave City the lead.

Hughes was sent clear to double the lead and McCoy struck from 25 yards for a 3-0 interval advantage.

McCoy completed her treble with a last-minute free kick.

Stoke City head coach Emma Jones said “It’s a massive win and a professional performance from the team. Three points is very welcome against a really tough and physical WBA side.”
