FAWNL: Cardiff City Ladies step up title chase, Leeds win derby

FA Women’s National League title-chasing Cardiff City LFC hit eight at Larkhall Athletic, Leeds United beat third-placed Barnsley.

Division One North

Leeds United 3-1 Barnsley (Att: 80)

Leeds United won a Yorkshire derby with third-placed Barnsley to go third in the table. Cath Hamill opened the scoring after 36 minutes for United, but Nat Watson equalised before the break from 30 yards. Jess Rousseau restored the lead, Abbie Brown made it 3-1 by the hour mark, while Barnsley’s Louise Biggins was sent off in the dying minutes.

Division One South West

Larkhall Athletic 1-8 Cardiff City LFC (Att: 110)
Portishead Town 2-0 Keynsham Town (Att: 72)

Cardiff City Ladies cut Exeter City’s lead to six points with two games still in hand and now also have a better goal-difference following the victory at Larkhall Athletic, who are unlikely to escape the relegation zone after this defeat.  Libby Piggott hit a hat-trick, Ruby Scahill a double, Chloe Lloyd, Grace Seren and Ellie Sargent added one each.

Portishead Town pulled level on points with eighth-placed Keynsham Town, whom they beat with goals by Shannon Holloway and Tamzin Hayward.
