Katie Rood scored one goal and made another as Lewes ran out 3-0 winners away to Crystal Palace in the FA Women’s Championship fixture on Thursday evening.
Having struggled to find the net recently, Fran Alonso’s side will have been relieved to break that spell as early as the eighth minute when Sarah Kempson converted a penalty.
Lucy Gillett had to make a double save to deny Kempson and the follow-up by Rood, while Palace went close to levelling as Hannah MacKenzie’s strike from distance was matched by Faye Baker.
Lewes also tried their luck from range when Leeta Rutherford’s effort was tipped onto the crossbar but they did double their lad on 68 minutes with Rood cutting back for Jess King to fire home.
With 5 minutes to go, Rood won and put away a penalty to make sure of the points
The result saw Lewes leapfrog the Eagles in the table to sit just goal-difference behind eighth-placed Sheffield United, while Palace stay five points ahead of basement side Millwall, who now have two game in hand.
