Foxes force win over Reds
Leicester City held on to send visitors Liverpool to a first defeat of the season.
Paige Bailey-Gayle fired the Foxes ahead in the first half and the lead was protected by Kirstie Levell, who made a fine stop to thwart Amalie Thestrup.
Lachante Paul increased their advantage before the hour mark and although Jess Clarke quickly halved the deficit for the Reds, they were unable to force an equaliser.
Durham down Palace with Hepple double
Two free-kicks gave Durham a 2-0 victory 0ver Crystal Palace and saw them end the weekend as league leaders.
Palace keeper Chloe Morgan denied Molly Sharpe and at the other end Megan Borthwick tipped a Bianca Baptiste effort wide, before Hepple’s free-kick gave the hosts the lead on half-time.
Hepple headed against the bar after the break and doubled the advantage from a second set-piece.
Borthwick later made a fingertip save to stop Baptiste getting Palace back into the match.
Rooks edge Rovers
Simran Jhamat got the only goal as Lewes made it three wins from four with victory over Blackburn Rovers.
Fran Bentley saved a Georgia Timms’ header and Ellie Leek missed the follow-up from close range.
Inside the last 20 minutes, Rovers’ Saffron Jordan forced a near-post save by Tatiana Saunders.
Lewes made the breakthrough with 11 minutes left, Filippa Savva finding Jhamat whose shot squeezed under the Blackburn keeper.
Quickfire double seals Blades win
Sheffield United edged into second place with all three goals of the game at Coventry United.
Melissa Johnson’s effort was the difference between the sides at the interval and it was she who won the ball back on 78 minutes, leading to Courtney Sweetman-Kirk bagging the Blades’ second.
Sweetman-Kirk made it two goals in as many minutes, tapping home to seal the points.
London City beat Bees
London City Lionesses secured a first win of the campaign, sending London Bees to a fifth defeat in a row.
They were ahead after only 4 minutes, as Alli Murphy put away a penalty but Georgia Robert levelled on 63 minutes with a long-range free kick lobbed in.
However, four minutes later and Harley Bennett headed home to give caretaker manager Melissa Phillips a winning start.
