England beat Poland 2-0 to reach the UEFA Women’s U-17 Championship final, through which they have qualified for the World Cup.

Two goals in five first-half minutes set Natalie Henderson’s side on the road to a semi-final victory in Sweden and a first place in the final.

Niamh Peacock was on hand to tap home at the far post in the 29th minute, after goalkeeper Julia Woznak could not get distance on her parry of Lola Brown’s cross.

Vera Jones soon added the second, beating two defenders and slotting the ball between the legs of another and past the keeper.

The Young Lionesses’ opponents in the final on Saturday 18 May will be Spain, who brushed aside holders France 6-1 in the other semi-final. Kick-off is at 4pm BST at Malmö, live on uefa.tv.

Looking further ahead, the 16-team FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be held in the Dominican Republic from 16 October to 3 November 2024.
