Team GB kicked off their Women’s Olympic Tournament with a comfortable 2-0 win over Chile, as Ellen White scored in either half.

White first had the ball in the net on 10 minutes only to be denied by the flag for offside but soon did give Hege Riise’s side the lead, Lauren Hemp bundling Lucy bronze’s cross back into the six-yard box, where the Manchester City striker finished.

Although Team GB did not make their most of their opportunities to build a more positive goal-difference ahead of two tough group games, they did make the points safe 17 minutes from time.

Bronze again put the ball over and White hooked the ball home rather acrobatically.

Japan are next up for Team GB, 11.30am kick off (UK time) on Saturday, live on BBC1.
