In a repeat of the Euro 2017 Final, Netherlands beat the Danes 3-2 at the Algarve Cup with two late goals, while Denmark had a player dismissed.

It was a second win in a row for the Dutch, having thumped Japan, while Denmark earlier drew with Iceland. The Danes twice led through Pernille Mosegaard-Harder and Frederikke Thøgerson but Cheyenne van den Goorbergh and Lieke Martens replied, the later with a dozen minutes left. Denmark then had Karoline Smidt Nielsen red carded and Simone Boye-Sorensen conceded an own-goal from a Jill Roord corner 5 minutes into stoppage-time.

Japan bounced back to beat Iceland 2-1 with an 86th-minute decider in their Group C match. Yuika Sugasawa had them in front but Hlin Eiriksdottir levelled on 74 minutes, only for Mana Iwabuchi to restore the advantage late on.

Australia and Portugal won the opening Group A games on Wednesday and after the Matildas’ dramatic seven-goal thriller, they and their second opponents finished without either scoring.

Norway got off the mark with a 2-0 victory over China, in which Ingrid Engen’s opener was eventually added to by Chelsea’s Maren Mjelde 2 minutes from time.

Sweden and South Korea began Group B with victories and are now both on four points after drawing 1-1. Stina Blackstenius gave the Swedes a 19th-minute lead but that was cancelled out just after the half hour by Lee-Mi Na.

Canada put their first points on the board with a single-goal victory over Russia. Anna Kozhnikova was sent off after 24 minutes and Christine Sinclair converted the resulting penalty.

The last round of group games are played on Monday.

3pm: South Korea v Canada, Sweden v Russia
3.40pm: Iceland v Netherlands, Japan v Denmark
