NIFL Women’s Premiership League Cup holders Linfield were eliminated by Sion Swifts in the quarter-finals on Monday night, while Glentoran put five goals past competition debutants Comber Rec.
Chloe McGlade netted the opener for Swifts in the 4th minute after a goalmouth scramble, with Aimee Mackin doubling the lead midway through the half.
After the break Linfield were thwarted by the visitors defence and several excellent saves from Jamaica international goalkeeper Nicole McClure.
When the hosts did finally get a goal back through Megan Bell, it was deep into stoppage-time and Swifts progressed to a semi-final tie at Cliftonville on 27 May.
It took the Glens 32 minutes to open the scoring against Comber Rec with Nadene Caldwell getting on the end of a Demi Vance corner following a sustained period of pressure.
Sarah Gamble headed in the second and after the break a Sam Kelly delivery resulted in Rachel Rogan tucking the ball in.
From Oliva Marshall’s blocked shot Rogan nipped in to net the rebound, before 16-year-old Marshall grabbed her first senior goal, firing home at the back post following a free-kick.
Glentoran will meet either Derry City or Crusaders Strikers in the semi-final.
