Leicester secured a first victory of the season in all competitions at ten-player Durham, who had Abby Holmes sent off before the break for denying Molly Pike a goalscoring chance. Shannon O’Brien netted from Sophie Howard’s cross and Pike got the second from a Jess Sigsworth delivery, the Wildcats replying late on as Mollie Lambert set up Lily Crosthwaite for a fine strike.
Liverpool lead Group A after seeing off Blackburn with early goals in either half. Jade Bailey got the first and Taylor Hinds headed in from a Missy Bo Kearns corner, Rovers having some late hope after Aimee Hodgson netted from distance.
Sheffield United are up to second after a fine win away at Aston Villa. A Kasia Lipka opener and Courtney Sweetman-Kirk penalty after a foul on Lucy Watson had the Blades two up in 20 minutes. Chaney Boye-Hlorkah came off the bench at the break to quickly halve the deficit but the hosts couldn’t find an equaliser.
London City Lionesses went level on points with Brighton in Group E following an impressive away win. Karin Muya got the only goal on 50 minutes, when sent through one on one with Albion keeper Megan Walsh. Shae Yanez tipped a shot onto the post and Carly Girasoli cleared a Maisie Symonds lob off the line as the Championship side held on.
West Ham made it two wins from two with all four goals of the game at Birmingham City. The Hammers struck twice late in the first half, Claudia Walker forcing an own-goal from Louise Quinn but then finding the net herself from a Zaneta Wyne pass. Lucy Parker and Katerina Svitkova each added powerful efforts after the restart.
Reading came through a trip to Crystal Palace 3-1 winners, going in a goal up as Gemma Evans nodded in a Lily Woodham cross. Molly-Mae Sharpe followed up Grace Moloney’s save from Kirsty Barton to equalise, only for Brooke Chaplen to hit back with a swift brace from balls by Deanne Rose and Emma Harries.
In the same group, Bristol City beat Lewes by a similar score to stay in pole position. Aggie Beever-Jones curled opener was added to by half-time as Abi Harrison turned in a Melissa Johnson cross. Johnson got the third straight after the restart, with Heidi Logan pulling one back for the Rooks.
Spurs have won both their Group C games so far after thrashing Watford 11-0. Rosella Ayane and Angela Addison each hit hat-tricks, while there was one apiece for Chi Ubogagu, Esther Morgan, Asmita Ale, Cho So-hyun and debutant Izzy Lane.
Charlton defeated Coventry 3-1 to put their first points on the board. Lois Roche got the first goal and Olivia Fergusson replied but Elise Hughes scored twice by the interval.
