Everton beat Leicester City in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup, Liverpool won a shoot-out at Sheffield United.

Group A – Sheffield United 0-0 Liverpool (3-5 on pens)
Group B – Leicester City 1-3 Everton

There was a winning start for new Everton boss Jean-Luc Vasseur, the Toffees baking their first points of the group stage at the Pirelli Stadium.

Anna Anvegard netted just two minutes in and Izzy Christiansen struck from the edge of the box to give the visitors a two-goal lead at the interval. Ashleigh Plumtree replied to give Leicester some late hope, only for Valerie Gauvin to then seal the win with three minutes left.

Liverpool gained a bonus point for the second time after a tie at 90 minutes, profiting from penalties over Sheffield United as they had previously done against Aston Villa. For the Blades, it was a second shoot-out loss in two group games so far.

Rebecca Rayner struck her penalty for the hosts against the bar, Taylor Hinds’ spot-kick was decisive the Matt Beard’s side.
