Everton edged Manchester United 1-0 but it was not enough for them to reach the last eight of the FA Women’s Continental League Cup.
Manchester United were unable to make it through and Everton ended up with an inferior goal difference to those in contention for being one of the two best group runners-up.
Sandy MacIver did well to prevent Jane Ross scoring from close range on 16 minutes and United continued to threaten, as Millie Turner flicked a header wide and Ona Batlle tested MacIver from distance.
Hayley Raso came off the bench at half-time and soon brought a good save out of Mary Earps, then with 15 minutes left the Australian international crossed and Lucy Graham finished.
MacIver maintained the hosts’ slender lead when tipping over Ella Toone’s drive and blocking an effort by Ross.
Teams into the hat for the quarter-final draw are; Aston Villa, Bristol City, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Durham, Leicester City, Manchester City, West Ham United.
