Bristol City back on course for Barclays Women’s Championship title

Bristol City restored a six-point lead in the Barclays Women’s Championship with victory at Southampton while Durham downed London City.

Charlton Athletic 2-2 Sunderland
Crystal Palace 1-0 Blackburn Rovers
Durham 3-0 London City Lionesses (Att: 1,372)
Sheffield United 2-3 Lewes
Southampton 0-1 Bristol City
Coventry United 0-1 Birmingham City

Bristol City hit the only goal at St Mary’s Stadium, Ffion Morgan volleying in off the crossbar.

Durham defeated London City Lionesses 3-0, Rio Hardy, Beth Hepple and Sarah Robson the scorers.

Birmingham City went fourth with a narrow win at Coventry United, where Martha Harris headed in Harriet Scott’s cross.

Sunderland’s draw at Charlton saw the Addicks drop to fourth. Jessica Brown scored after the hour mark for the Black Cats and although a quickfire double from Melissa Johnson saw Charlton take the lead, substitute Grace McCatty equalised in stoppage time.

Lewes won at Bramall Lane with Ellie Mason’s second-half brace, Kirsty Barton having earlier equalised after Courtney Sweetman-Kirk’s opener. Naomi Hartley had volleyed the Blades back on terms at 2-2.

Crystal Palace edged Blackburn Rovers with a Molly Sharpe shot just before the break.
