Birmingham City have signed Sunderland captain Lucy Staniforth on a two-year deal.
The Blues say that the 25-year old joins after enjoying an impressive campaign with the Black Cats which saw her named the Supporters Player of the Season and also gain her first senior England call up in June.
The attacking midfielder will bolster Blues boss Marc Skinner’s options as he prepares his squad for another WSL campaign.
“It’s a massive opportunity for me,” Staniforth told bcfc.co.uk. “I’ve grown a lot as a player and as a person over the past two years and I felt like it was the right time for me to develop my career.
“I want to win something with Birmingham City which would be massive and then to get into the England squad on a regular basis.”
Staniforth made her debut for Sunderland when she was just 16-years-old, later playing for Lincoln, Bristol Academy and Liverpool, all in the WSL.
“Lucy is a wonderfully talented player that has shown an outstanding contribution to her team in the majority of games I observed,” added Blues boss Marc Skinner. “More importantly she is the right character for Birmingham City and a person as well as a player that will help us drive further on.
“It will always be about how hungry a player is to succeed and improve and Lucy has that in abundance.”
