Arsenal were beaten 3-2 by Wolfsburg after extra time in the UEFA Women’s Champions League in front of 60,063 at the Emirates.
The Gunners survived a very early VAR check for a possible penalty, before a defensive error allowed Stina Blackstenius to give Arsenal the lead.
Wolfsburg were level before the break, Jill Roots with a volley from the edge of the area following a corner.
Blackstenius had the ball in the net seconds after the interval but this time the VAR check went against the Gunners.
Alexandra Popp headed Wolfsburg in front from a corner before the hour mark, Svenja Huth should have extended the lead.
Jen Beattie’s header from a Lotte Wubben-Moy cross brought the tie back to 2-2 on the night and 4-4 on aggregate.
Arsenal’s Lina Hurting was denied by keeper Merle Frohms in extra time, Wolfsburg’s Paulina Bremer put a great chance wide in the second period.
Katie McCabe’s cross shot hit the bar but moments later Jule Brand dispossessed Wubben-Moy and crossed for Bremer to win it.
