All-Southampton Women’s FC clash in SDFA Cup Final

Southampton WFC Development captain Lily Shergill lifts the SDFA Cup.

Southampton Women’s Development edged their club’s Reserves 3-2 in the Southampton Divisional FA Women’s Cup Final.

The Reserves beat New Milton and Hampshire Police to win their place, whilst the Development team had victories over QK Southampton, Team Solent and Winchester City Flyers on their route to the final at Sholing FC.

This season Development, made up largely of U-18 players, have been competing in the Southern Regional, whilst the Reserves played their inaugural season in the FAWNL Reserves League.

Hannah Samuels had the Reserves ahead and despite a Chelsie Hay equaliser, Samuels restored the advantage on the hour mark.

However, Jane Yeates levelled and later won the tie with a glancing header, while team-mate Tia Hooper was Player of the Match.

Angus Scully, Development Manager, said: “Fantastic to end the season with some silverware, especially being the majority of the squad’s first season in senior football. And overall, it was great to have two sides from the same club, competing and playing a high intensity, end to end game!”
