Sheffield United Women have added former England U-20, Liverpool and Bristol City full-back Ali Johnson to their squad.

Johnson (20) has spent several seasons in the FA WSL since coming through the Blackburn Rovers Centre of Excellence, having initially impressed enough to earn a move to Liverpool where she made her debut at the start of 2017.

The pacey full-back joined Bristol City last summer after coming back from the U-20 World Cup with a bronze medal, but injury severely hampered her season and she only made a handful of appearances for the Vixens.

Manager Carla Ward is delighted to add more quality to her squad as the new season grows ever closer.

“Ali is a really positive signing for us,” said Ward. “Ali brings experience at the highest level and she’s still so young. We’re delighted to have her on board and we know she’ll add quality to the squad this season.”

Johnson herself is also happy to have sealed a move to the Blades ahead of the new season.

“It feels really good. What Carla wants to do this season, the goals she’s set and personally I think she has a lot of belief in me. I want to be here, it’s a club going in the right direction and that’s why I wanted to be a part of it.”
