Record crowd see Crystal Palace lift Barclays Women’s Championship trophy

As Crystal Palace received the Barclays Women’s Championship trophy, local rivals Charlton Athletic finished a point behind in second spot.

Durham 1-0 Birmingham City
London City Lionesses 3-2 Lewes
Sheffield United 1-3 Blackburn Rovers
Watford 3-2 Reading

Crystal Palace had their record attendance at Selhurst Park and although there were no goals in the game with Sunderland, the Eagles had effectively put themselves out of reach last week, due to their goal-difference being far better than those of their title rivals.

Charlton Athletic took second place from Sunderland with a 2-0 win over Southampton at the Valley. Just three minutes in, Tegan McGowan took the ball of Saints’ keeper Kayla Rendell and tapped into an empty net. McGowan struck again approaching the hour mark, driving into the box before slotting home.

Durham beat Birmingham City to secure ninth position, Sarah Wilson heading the only goal ten minutes after the restart.

Blackburn Rovers came from behind to win at Sheffield United and end up level on points with sixth-placed Birmingham. Molly Graham netted her first senior goal when heading home Jodie Hutton’s corner, Rovers were level before the break through Hannah Coan. In the first minute of the second half Lauren Thomas put Rovers ahead, Hannah Silcock later making it 3-1.

London City Lionesses kept eight place with a narrow win over relegated Lewes. Aimee Claypole opened the scoring for the visitors but Chaney Boye-Hlorkah quickly equalised from distance and Danielle Carter put the hosts 2-1 close to half time. Emma Mukandi briefly gave London City a two-goal cushion, Jacqui Hand with a swift reply for the Rooks.

Watford ended a disappointing season with victory over Reading. Poppy Wilson played in Carly Johns to give Watford the lead at Vicarage Road, a second following through Drè Georgiou’s strike deep in first-half added time. The Royals replied through Madison Perry with 20 minutes to go, Coral-Jade Haines then blasting the Hornets back into a two-goal lead. Perry got her second of the game for Reading with 11 minutes to play.
