Northern Premier – Blackburn battle to see off Boro
Leaders Blackburn Rovers won a hard-fought 2-1 victory away to Middlesbrough with a late goal. Lauren Davies set up Natasha Flint to break the deadlock at the start of the second half but Boro were level within 10 minutes as Anna Birtwhistle’s free-kick from just inside Rovers’ half bounced over Danielle Gibbons and into the roof of the net. With 4 minutes to go, Lynda Shepherd headed home a corner to clinch all three points.
Sunderland fought back from an early goal down to win 4-2 at Hull City and go second in the table. from 4′ Goal for Hull. Hope Knight’s shot was deflected in by the Back Cats’ Louise Griffiths before Emily Hutchinson’s cut-back was put away by Bridget Galloway for the leveller. Keira Ramshaw had the visitors ahead 5 minutes into the second half, Hutchinson headed in via the underside of the bar and although Knight scored from a rebound off the woodwork, Georgia Gibson restored the two-goal cushion.
Fylde are a point behind fourth-placed Derby County after defeating them 3-1. Emily Hollinshead crossed for Sophie Charlton to net the opener for the hosts and on half time, Olivia Wild rifled home the second. Jodie Redgrave hit the bar for the Rams and although Andi Bell managed to halve the arrears, Hollinshead took advantage of a 90th-minute goalkeeper error to make sure of the win.
Sheffield FC went tenth with a good 2-0 win over fifth in the table Stoke City. Lisa Giampalma was involved in both goals which came in a late three-minute spell. She played in Ellie Hawcroft to net from 12 yards on 73 minutes and then struck the second herself. Sheffield FC next host Derby on Thursday evening.
Doncaster Rovers Belles sealed their first points and got off the bottom with a good 4-1 result at Guiseley Vixens. Their first-half lead was wiped out by Olivia Auker but went back in from with a strike from the edge of the box into the top corner. It was 3-1 from a free kick and the Belles rounded off the scoring in the last minute.
Southern Premier – Pilgrims push into third place
Plymouth Argyle pulled off a 3-0 win at Portsmouth, where Jessie Jones got their first goal after a mistake by the keeper. A free kick from Zoe Cunningham was headed in by Kayley Lane and with 5 minutes to go, Cunningham had another assist with Jones nodding in at the far post for her brace.
C&K Basildon and QPR shared six goals as each claimed a second point of the campaign. Courtney Clarke and Katie White scored to see the home twice in front, with Jo Wilson and Roschelle Shakes equalising, bef0re Whitney Locke gave Rangers the lead, only for Basildon to hit back. The visitors lost Anya Kinnane late on when forced off with a suspected dislocated shoulder.
Midlands Division 1 – Second win for Saints
TNS went eighth on goal-difference with a 6-1 win at basement side Steel City. Wanderers hit the bar before the Saints took a 2-0 lead in the interval, eventually pulling one back from a penalty at 4-1 but playing the latter stages a player short due to injury.
Northern Division 1 – Shrimpers recover two-goal deficit
Morecambe are up to tenth and Liverpool Feds seventh after they finished all square at 3-3. Jodie Mortimer, Nicola James and Amy Seagraves all scored in a dramatic nine-minute spell for the Feds after Hannah Williamson’s opener for Morecambe. The Shrimpers then came back from 3-1 down at the break to draw 3-3.
South East Division 1 – Leyton late show
Leyton Orient leapfrogged Actonians into fourth when dramatically edging them 3-2. Hayley Barton completed her double for the O’s 5 minutes from time and then substitute Tara O’Halloran got the decider.
Ipswich Town went third with a 4-0 defeat of Denham United. Lindsey Smith headed in Natalie Richardson’s corner and Zoe Cossey cut in to smash the ball high into the net on 50 minutes. Shortly after, Toni-Anne Wayne set up Natasha Thomas to finish at the second attempt and then Sophie Welton netted the fourth on the follow up from Thomas’s effort against the bar.
South West Division 1 – Magpies off the mark
Maidenhead United got a first point at the sixth attempt with a 2-2 draw against Swindon Town. Alex Dover and Nat Barnes were on the scoresheet for the Magpies, the Robins on target through Leila Viveash and Abby Picton but having a player carried off late in the game.
Plate – Barnsley to face Belles
Barnsley beat Burton Albion 5-1 in the Plate to set up an all-Yorkshire clash at Doncaster in the 2nd Round. Amy Woodruff and Mollie Crump scored in the first half for the Tykes, substitute Emily Ward, plus Sophie Bell and Rebecca Hornsey later adding one each.
