An early goal by Cypriot side Somatio Barcelona made for a nervous night for Glasgow City but the hosts went through 2-1 on aggregate to reach the UEFA Women’s Champions League Round of 16.
Glasgow City’s 2-0 lead from the first leg was all too quickly cut in half as Krystyna Freda fired home via the crossbar just 7 minutes in.
The aggregate scores might have been levelled when Freda was presented with a free header at the end of the half but Lee Alexander dived to take the catch.
In a three-minute spell soon after the restart, Somatio keeper Anna James-Buhigas did well to turn away a Sam Kerr strike and then keep out a Kirsty Howat volley on the turn, with City having a goal ruled out inbetween.
Somatio efforts for a crucial second goal included some late pressure and Alexander was called upon again to thwart them, with the final whistle eventually bringing relief for the crowd of 511 at Petershill Park.

Holders Lyon were 5-0 winners over Avaldsnes whom they earlier beat 2-0 away. Eugénie Le Sommer and Ada Hegerberg each bagged a brace after Amel Majri’s early opener.
Slavia Praha also finished 7-0 aggregate winners against Gintra with a 4-0 home result, in which Tereza Kožárová hit a hat-trick.
Lillestrom took a 3-0 lead to Zvezda 2005 and added another goal, Emilie Haavi the scorer.
FC Zürich began with a single-goal advantage at home to Honka and extended that to 6-1, Fabienne Humme with a 23-minute treble, the visitors with a late consolation.
Paris Saint-Germain ended up 6-1 victors over St.Pölten, Marie-Antoinette Katoto’s penalty in the second leg added to by Melike Pekel.
