Aberystwyth Town picked up the result of the day in the Adran Premier on Sunday – coming back from two goals down at last season’s runners-up Briton Ferry Llansawel to win 3-2.
It was Aber’s first win in a month following a 2-0 loss away at Swansea City, a 3-2 defeat at home to Barry Town United, and a 6-1 trouncing at Cardiff City.
Carys Bufton got all three goals – but midfielder and Cymru under-19 international Imi Scourfield says it was down to a real team effort.
“Yesterday’s performance was one which we needed as a group after the last couple of games,” she told SheKicks.net. “The hard work and determination which we showed in training sessions last week in particular to work on certain areas was required, which we then brought into yesterday’s game – resulting in a positive performance.
“There are still things to work on but with that positive result behind us, it boosts the group’s morale.”
Pontypridd United head coach resigns
There were two other comeback wins as well. Barry Town United bounced back from 2-0 down against Pontypridd United to win 3-2.
More than that, all three of their goals came after the 88th minute, and all from substitutes – a brace for Beca Thomas and one for debutante Millie Breen.
After the match, Ponty head coach Drew Lewis stepped down from the role.
The Adran Leagues social media accounts quoted him as saying: “My mental health must come first, and I recognise that without being in the right headspace, I cannot give the team the leadership and energy they deserve.”
Swansea boss Taylor: Over the moon
And Swansea hit back from a goal down against The New Saints to win 2-1, thanks to Chloe Chivers and Stacey John.
Head coach Yzzy Taylor said afterwards: “I’m over the moon. Over the last couple of weeks we have probably deserved more out of the games but I think we were really solid in terms of knowing what we would get out of it if we worked hard.”
Cardiff stay at the top of the table following a dramatic penalty equaliser ten minutes from time against Wrexham.
Katie Barker had opened the scoring for Jenny Sugarman’s side, but Fiona Barry converted the spot kick late on to share the points – the first draw in the league this season for any teams.
It keeps the two sides level at the top of the table – with Cardiff leading thanks to their goal difference.
