Denmark vs Sweden predicted starting XI’s
Denmark’s all-time leading scorer Pernille Harder will provide the biggest goalscoring threat for the Danes in Friday’s contest.
The Danes can also call on Real Madrid’s Signe Bruun despite a recent injury concern.
As for Sweden, they are likely to be without Fridolina Rolfo for the group stage, after picking up an injury in the clash with Denmark last month.
Sweden though can rely on the services of Stina Blackstenius, who scored the Champions League winner for Arsenal against Barcelona in May.
Predicted Denmark line-up vs Sweden (3-4-3): Ostegaard; Obaze, Ballisager, Veje; Thomsen, Hasbo, Snerle, Holmgaard; Kramer, Harder, Bruun
Predicted Sweden starting XI vs Denmark (4-2-3-1): Falk; Holmberg, Bjorn, Eriksson, Andersson; Angeldal, Bennison; Rytting Kaneryd, Asllani, Janogy; Blackstenius
Denmark vs Sweden prediction
On paper, while Sweden might be favourites, Denmark are more than good enough to put up a good fight against their Scandinavian rivals.
This was not reflected in their 6-1 Nations League defeat to Sweden last month.
Sweden have a pedigree of going far in the Women’s European Championship. They won the inaugural tournament in 1984, lost finals to Germany in 1995 and 2001, and have since reached the semi-finals on three further occasions.
Denmark lost in the final of Euro 2017 to hosts Netherlands but were knocked out of the group stage three years ago.
Sweden with their superior squad and consistency at major international tournaments, should walk away from their Euro 2025 opener with a victory.
Denmark will push Sweden harder than they did last month, but will fall on the wrong end of a 3-1 defeat. According to the UK’s top football betting sites, this scoreline is available at odds of 11/1.
Prediction: Denmark 1-3 Sweden – 11/1
Betting tips for Denmark vs Sweden
- Denmark vs Sweden betting tip 1: Stina Blackstenius two goals or more
Stina Blackstenius will be riding on a massive high after netting the Champions League winner for Arsenal.
The 29-year-old then went on to net a hat-trick for Sweden in their Nations League win over Denmark last month.
Blackstenius, who has 38 goals in 116 appearances for Sweden, also netted in their 2-0 friendly win over Norway last week.
It is that type of form which will frighten opposition defenders during Women’s Euro 2025.
Denmark more than know the trouble she can cause, but it’s one thing to know what the problem is, it’s another thing to fix the problem.
Blackstenius will fancy herself a couple of goals against Denmark on Friday.
- Betting tip 2: Sweden to win and over 2.5 goals
Three of the last four meetings between Sweden and Denmark has seen over 2.5 goals.
Last month’s Nations League contest saw seven goals in a 6-1 victory for Sweden. Sweden also beat Denmark 2-1 in February and 3-0 in the same month three years ago.
The only exception is a 1-0 victory for Denmark in April 2023.
With the attacking talent on show, we could see a goal-fest when Sweden play Denmark. After all, there was three goals in just 11 minutes last month.
What are Denmark’s chances of reaching the knockout phase?
According to the UK’s top betting sites, Denmark have a 7/1 chance of reaching the knockout phase of Euro 2025.
Germany are heavily favoured to finish top at 1/2, with Sweden second at odds of 11/5. Poland, competing at their first Euros, are massive underdogs at odds of 75/1.
While Group D is seen to many as the ‘Group of Death’, the recent FIFA World Rankings would suggest otherwise.
Germany and Sweden are both ranked inside the top six in the world, with Denmark 12th and Poland 27th.
Group C has an average world ranking of 12, compared to 14 for Group D, 14.25 for Group B and 19.25 for Group A.
