Scotland ended their 2022 UEFA Women’s Euro qualifying campaign with a 2-0 loss to Portugal in a game played in Cyprus.

Scotland went close to opening the scoring a few times, with a Martha Thomas volley from a Claire Emslie cross pushed round the post by Patricia Morais, who later tipped an Erin Cuthbert effort over the bar.

Despite a strong start, Stuart McCall’s side found themselves behind, keeper Jenna Fife’s touch letting her down and her attempted clearance was deflected into the net by the Ana Capeta.

Emslie and Thomas combined again in first-half stoppage time but the latter could not quite direct her effort on goal.

Although Thomas and Jen Beattie had chances to equalise, Fatima Pinto blasted home Portugal’s second goal at the death.
