#WU17EURO Qual Rd: Young Lionesses make winning start

Wales U-17s lost to Russia

England began their UEFA Women’s U-17 Championship qualifying round group games with a 2-0 win against Croatia in Zenica on Monday 23 October.

The Young Lionesses took the lead 6 minutes before the break, Freya Gregory with the assist and Caitlin Smith with the finish.

Despite a dominant performance by Lydia Bedford’s side that yielded 27 shots to Croatia’s three, it was not until the 87th minute that the points were made safe through Lucy O’Brien and with the help of Anouk Denton.

England are back at the same venue on Thursday afternoon for their next match when they face hosts Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Belgium are the other team in the group and the Young Lionesses finish up against them on Sunday.
