Worst WSL records of all time: Liverpool and West Ham on track for unwanted history

Liverpool and West Ham are both still yet to earn a point in the league this season and they are on track for unwanted history with the worst WSL record ever.

Here at SheKicks, we take a look at the worst-ever records in the WSL and if Liverpool or West Ham will set a new league record for least amount of points in a campaign.

What is the worst WSL points record?

There has never been a team in the WSL that has finished on 0 points, so this year we could witness history.

Two different records have to be considered when looking at the worst points tally ever. There is one team that set the record in a 22-game season and another, earlier record, with 14 games in the campaign.

Everton’s 14-game season

Everton hold the worst record in a 14 game WSL campaign with just four points in the 2014 season.

The Toffees didn’t manage a single win during their record-setting year with four draws in a miserable campaign.

Winning no games was another new WSL record which was set by Everton.

There was no heavy defeats for Everton in 2014, with their biggest loss just a three goal margin.

After losing England international’s Jill Scott and Toni Duggan to Manchester City prior to their season starting, it was no surprise that Everton struggled in the league.

Jill Scott left Everton in 2014 aged 26 as she looked for a tougher challenge in the WSL

While they had no luck in the WSL, Everton did go far in the FA Cup.

After shock wins in the knockouts the club from Merseyside faced off against Arsenal in the 2014 FA Cup final.

There was no reprise for Everton at the end of a long season, as Arsenal men and women’s team both secured FA Cup glory.

Following their loss in the cup final, Everton were relegated to the Championship for the first time in 21 years.

The Toffees eventually returned to the WSL when Notts County folded in 2017/18.

Bristol City’s 22-game season

Arguably an even worse season than Everton’s was Bristol City’s 2023/24 campaign.

The Robins had eight more games than Everton did in 2014 following the league’s expansion, but they managed just two more points in comparison.

While Everton weren’t able to win any games in 2014, Bristol City won one game in their season with a dramatic 3-2 win against West Ham who finished second bottom.

No team has ever endured a worst season at home than the Robins did in 2023.

Bristol City didn’t gain a point at their home ground, losing every single game they played at Ashton Gate Stadium.

Since their relegation two years ago Bristol got close to gaining immediate promotion. This year with the top league’s expanding there is more of a chance the Robins could get promoted back to the WSL.

Based on points per game, Bristol City’s 2023/24 campaign is far worse than Everton’s in 2014 – especially considering Everton’s near miss in the FA Cup.

Will Liverpool or West Ham make unwanted history?

This season, both Liverpool and West Ham are on track to break all previous WSL records.

Neither team are yet to gain a point in 2024/25 and things don’t seem to be showing any sign of looking up.

An interesting fixture to look out for is when these sides play each other, as both teams can’t end the year on 0 points.

West Ham host Liverpool at the beginning of December in their first meeting that could decide who finishes bottom this year.

There has never been a team in the WSL that has finished on 0 points. Both teams are still on track to finish on less than Bristol City’s six points in a 22-game campaign.

This weekend Liverpool face Tottenham and West Ham take on Manchester City, so it is likely that both teams finish gameweek seven on 0 points still.

With two teams relegated this year for the first time in history, West Ham and Liverpool’s fate may already be sealed for the year.
