Women’s Regional Leagues: Chesterfield secure runners-up spot

Chesterfield clinched second place in the East Midlands Premier, as more Regional League divisions were completed. 

EASTERN – Sudbury go second

1 South –  AFC Sudbury beat East Bergholt United 8-1 on Tuesday – with four goals from Jessica Allen – as they jumped two places to second. Now guaranteed a top two finish, they will knock Cheshunt off the top should they win their final game against basement side Billericay Town Development.

Challenge Cup – Biggleswade United topped Group A with three wins from three, the last of which was Sunday’s 3-2 success at Barking.

EAST MIDLANDS – Chesterfield clinch runners-up spot

Premier –  Notts County were 2-0 winners over Rotherham United at Meadow Lane Stadium on Monday, Ellie Rowson and substitute Summer Gayle on target in front of over 700 spectators. Lincoln United beat Oughtibridge WM 4-2 on Thursday despite Abigail Murrell’s brace being cancelled out, the same evening saw champions Northampton Town condemn Leicester City LFC to last place with a 5-0 defeat. Chesterfield sealed second spot on Sunday, when Elise Keyworth’s goal for Lincoln was cancelled out by the Spireites’ Georgina Williams.

1 North – Grimsby Town wrapped the division’s fixtures up on Wednesday, a 4-1 result at SJR Worksop seeing them take second place from Nottingham Trent University.

LONDON & SOUTH EAST – Hackney pushing for top half

1 North – An Amy Nicholson first-half double set Hackney on the way to a 4-1 victory at Clapham United, as they push for a top-half finish, champions Sutton United were 5-2 winners at Sport London E Benfica.

1 South – Meridian finished bottom of the table on goal-difference, despite only a second win of the season being recorded at Newhaven.

NORTH EAST – Sunderland West End draw despite dismissal

Premier – Midweek matches saw Ossett United put four past Wakefield Trinity and South Shields draw 2-2 with Redcar Town. Still chasing third spot, Redcar Town edged Hartlepool United 2-1 on Sunday, while elsewhere Farsley Celtic FC drew 2-2 with Sunderland West End whose Allison Ferris scored and was sent off , champions York City hit Harrogate Town 5-1 and South Shields netted eleven times at Sheffield Wednesday.

1 North –  Two Jessica Robinson goals helped Boro Rangers to a 3-2 win over West Allotment Celtic, their rivals for the runners-up spot – Chester le Street United – had a walkover against Prudhoe Town.

SOUTH WEST – Paulton take third place

1 East – Paulton Rovers took third position after beating Chipping Sodbury Town 4-2 aided by an Alex Gwyther brace, AEK Boco edged a seven-goal thriller with Keynsham Town Reserves as Lucy Atkinson notched a hat-trick.

WEST MIDLANDS – Three big away wins

Premier – There was a 5-1 victory for champions Stourbridge at Coventry Sphinx, Crusaders went one better at   Kidderminster Harriers and Lichfield City ran out 10-1 winners at City of Stoke, where Shelbie Cartwright picked up a treble.
