After losing to Aston Villa in the week, there is a real sense of frustration surrounding Liverpool women who may have to look to the transfer window to save their season.
The Reds remain well off the pace in the WSL and they are staring down the barrel of an unprecedented relegation.
Liverpool fighting relegation
After such a horrid start to the season, Liverpool are in a desperate spot heading into the winter break.
The Reds are two points behind West Ham at the bottom of the WSL table with a huge clash against the Hammers coming up on Sunday.
Following their latest loss to Aston Villa in the week, Liverpool boss Gareth Taylor had a bleak outlook on his club’s situation.
“I think there is a real reality check here.” Taylor said. “I think this team needs help. I need help.”
“Deserved, didn’t think we were at it at all.”

“I think there’s no doubt that we have regressed as a team for sure, more than is expected of a club like Liverpool. We have given it everything. We are trying to coach the players. The players are really honest.
“The reality is we are aware of it and I think sometimes you can be really exposed – and that’s what has happened tonight.”
Although West Ham boss Rehanne Skinner has assured fans that this weekend’s game isn’t a six-pointer, it feels like there is an awful lot riding on this game – including her opposing manager’s job.
With just one team facing relegation this year as the WSL expands to 14 teams, there is still plenty of time for Liverpool to turn their season around.
Will Liverpool look to new signings to save them?
The good news for Liverpool heading into the new year is that change could come soon.
There is a high likelihood that the Reds will look at signing new players in January as they look to turn their season around.
It is hard to pinpoint where exactly Liverpool need to improve on, with the whole squad struggling for form through the start of the campaign.
Gareth Taylor saying he ‘needs help’ suggests that the board will give their team some assistance heading into 2026, but if they lose to West Ham this weekend then it could very much be too little too late.
