Who will captain Manchester United in Champions League qualifier against PSV?

Maya Le Tissier

Manchester United go head to head against PSV in a Champions League qualifier on Wednesday and Maya Le Tissier is set to captain the side.

Le Tissier has been United captain since 2024 but this season she could face her toughest challenge yet.

Maya Le Tissier captaining first Champions League game

Although she was at the club the last time Manchester United were in the Champions League, Maya Le Tissier has never captained the Red Devils in the Champions League.

Le Tissier joined United from Brighton and Hove Albion in July 2022 and was first named captain in 2024.

When United face PSV on Wednesday night, the 23-year-old will lead the team out.

Since taking over as captain of the club Le Tissier has learnt a lot at Manchester United.

“It’s been massive,” Le Tissier said on her role as captain. “Obviously, I was at the club when we played Champions League last time, so feel like I’ve got a lot of experience now.

“I play most games, and that’s what I want to do. I want to be consistent and play every game no matter what the game is. So, I’ve learned a lot, definitely, especially after getting the arm band, it’s been a really good opportunity for me.”

Last year Le Tissier started all 22 WSL games for Manchester United and was named captain for every one of them.

In the summer Le Tissier also played a key role in England’s Euro 2025 success.

“There has been tough at times as well, but I think I’ve really enjoyed just having the opportunity.” Le Tissier continued. “That’s where we want to be. I want to be playing these big games, leading the team out. I’ve definitely learned a lot about myself, and I’m sure there’ll be many more things as well.”

After three years in Manchester, Le Tissier will now lead out the team in Europe for the first time on Wednesday night.

United are short favourites with betting sites to beat PSV in their Champions League qualifier.

A new-look United for 2025

After finishing third in the WSL last season, United have made two exciting signings this summer.

Swedish duo Julia Zigiotti Olme and Fridolina Rolfö both joined the club before the new campaign.

Both of the new stars are in line to start for United when they face PSV just before the season begins.

The club is also reportedly set to hold on to Grace Clinton this summer, despite various links to other WSL clubs.

United open their WSL campaign against Leicester City on Sunday, September 7th.
