Barcelona beat Arsenal 4-0 to reach the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals, with the Gunners having to wait to progress.
Group C – Arsenal 0-4 Barcelona, HB Koge 1-2 Hoffenheim
Group D – Benfica 0-5 Lyon, BK Hacken 1-5 Bayern Munich
Aitana Bonmati opened the scoring for Barca midway through the first half in front of over 12,000 at the Emirates, having earlier seen her header pushed round the post by Manuela Zinsberger. Jennifer Hermoso soon doubled the lead from a cross by Fridolina Rolfo, who hit home the third just before the break. Hermoso completed the scoring with a tap in for her second of the night on 75 minutes.
The result means Barcelona win the group and leaves Arsenal needing to avoid defeat by five goals or more at Hoffenheim next week, in order to also reach the last eight. Hoffenheim stayed in contention with a 2-1 win at HB Koge, where the German side had trailed before Nicole Billa converted two first-half penalties.
Lyon and Bayern Munich both made the quarter-finals after scoring five goals on their travels, Ada Hegerberg scored right at the start and end of the first half in Benfica, Jovana Damnjanović also bagged a brace as Bayern came from behind to win at Hacken.
