England won the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 Final in front of a European Championship record crowd of 87,192 at Wembley.
Ellen White had an early header caught by Merle Frohms, Lucy Bronze made a big defensive intervention before getting another aerial effort on goal.
A scramble in the England six-yard box saw Leah Williamson with an important touch and Mary Earps finally gathered the ball under pressure from Marina Hegering.
From a Beth Mead cutback White shot just over the crossbar, while Lena Magull did not make the most of an opportunity four minutes into the second half.
With just over an hour played, Keira Walsh sent Ella Toone away to execute a perfect chip into the corner of the net.
Minutes later, Magull gave England a fright as Earps touched her shot onto the post.
With a dozen minutes to go and Williamson having just cleared a goal-bound effort, Tabea Wassmuth got the ball over and Magull hit it home.
Toone had an extra-time strike kicked away by Frohms, but on 110 minutes England regained the lead.
Lauren Hemp’s corner was bundled toward goal by Bronze and Chloe Kelly scored her first for the Lionesses at the second attempt.
Alessia Russo forced Frohms into a tip-over but England saw the game out for a historical 2-1 win.
