Trio of #SWFL Titles Decided

Sunday saw three more Scottish League divisional winners confirmed, as Blackburn United, Central Girls FA Wasps and Morton all secured promotion.

Central Girls were promoted to SWPL 2 after clinching the Scottish League 1 North title when moving six points clear of rivals Dundee United, whom they ironically host in the last game this Sunday.

The Wasps became champions by beating Inverness City 6-0 at Alloa Athletic FC.

Unbeaten Blackburn United went into the last round of SWFL 2 Central fixtures with a three-point lead over Airdrie and a goal-difference eleven better.

So a draw was going to be enough to seal promotion and although Blackburn had only dropped a couple of points in the whole season to date.

They finished up with a narrow 1-0 home win over Motherwell Development, Kirst Frew’s early strike proving sufficient, as the Division 2 Cup winners added the league crown by winning 21 of their 22 games.

Morton sink title rivals

Morton clinched the SWFL Division 2 West crown with three games to spare, after thrashing second-placed Dumbarton United 7-1.

Morton were two up in 15 minutes, as a Dumbarton defender could only help a Lynsey McCall touch into her own net, before Rachel McConnachie’s 20-yard drive was fumbled over the goal-line and Jacqui Seagrave’s cross come shot made it 3-0 by half-time.

McConnachie added her second, with Seagrave make it 5-0 before netting her hat-trick goal with a free-kick.

Dumbarton got a consolation goal and before Eleanor Birch pounced on a goalmouth scramble at the death to begin the celebrations.
