The agent of Trinity Rodman has admitted she may “look elsewhere” after the NWSL rejected a contract offer from her current club, the Washington Spirit.

Rodman is set to walk away as a free agent, with the Washington Spirit unable to sign her to a new deal.

The NWSL reportedly turned down a four-year deal where Rodman would have averaged over $1 million (£750,000) per year.

Trinity Rodman’s agent gives update on her future

The agent of Trinity Rodman, Mike Senkowski, said the rejection from the NWSL may force her to consider offers from outside the league.

“We worked really hard to put together an agreement that we felt complied with the CBA and would keep Trinity in the league for the foreseeable future,” Senkowski said in an appearance on CBS Mornings.

“Obviously, we’re disappointed. With no certain way to get her fair market value within the NWSL, naturally, that forces you and encourages you to look elsewhere.”

WSL clubs are interested in Rodman amid her contract uncertainty at the Washington Spirit.

The Athletic have reported that the NWSL Players Association have since filed a grievance with the league.

Meghann Burke, the executive director of the NWSLPA, said: “It comes down to a very simple premise. If they can mess with Trinity Rodman’s free agency rights, they can mess with anyone’s. And we won’t stand for that.

She claimed that the Washington Spirit’s proposed contract fell within the rules of the CBA and the league’s competition and roster rules.

Why did the NWSL reject the contract offer for Trinity Rodman?

The Washington Spirit contract offer for Rodman reportedly averaged more than $1m per year (£750,000) over four years.

It would have seen Rodman paid more in the final two years of her deal.

However, reports claimed that the NWSL felt the contract’s structure violated the spirit of league rules.

The NWSL operated with a $3.5m (£2.6m) salary cap during the 2025 season. However, by 2029, when Rodman’s proposed extension would have ended, the cap is projected to rise to $4.9m (£3.6m).

Interest in Rodman

NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman previously insisted the NWSL would fight for Rodman, following a major offer from DC Power in the rival Gainbridge Super League.

Clubs in the WSL are also believed to be interested, while the likes of Barcelona and Lyon would also likely consider moves for the daughter of former NBA star Dennis Rodman.

She previously told ESPN’s Futbol W that it was just a “matter of when” over a potential move outside of the United States.
