The USA secured their first Tournament of Nations trophy, edging Australia on goal difference, with a resounding 4-1 win over a spirited but out-manoeuvered Brazil in Bridgeview, Illinois.
Jill Ellis’ side went 1-0 down after a Tierna Davidson own goal (interestingly only the 10th own goal in UWSNT history) but kept pressing forward and got back on track with a smart Rose Lavelle volley, just after the half hour mark.
1-1 at the break, USA turned their domination into goals in the second half. Julie Ertz slid in to side-foot home on 53 minutes after fine work in the 18 yard area by Tobin Heath on the right. Heath netted from the edge of the box in the 61st minute, before Megan Rapinoe’s low, curling free kick found Alex Morgan unmarked in the box, the striker made no mistake to round off the victory.
