Forfar Farmington had a record crowd of 423 for their Friday SBS Scottish Women’s Premier League fixture with Motherwell but lost to a late penalty.

Rebecca Dempster put a header over the bar from a 2nd-minute Forfar corner and shortly afterwards at the other end, a flag-kick was not collected by Fiona McNicoll allowing Kirsten Rolph a goal-bound shot but that was blocked by Cheryl Kilcoyne.

Player of the match Chelsea Mceachran clipped the Forfar far post with a curled effort and Ellie Cook did well to set up a chance for the hosts but Maria McSherry could not get the shot away,

Beth MacPherson failed to beat visiting keeper Morgan Hunter and a Katie Rice cross was glanced just wide as Motherwell struggled to break the deadlock.

The game was still goalless with 6 minutes to go when Mceachran played in substitute Lori Gardenr who was clipped by the home keeper, Kerry Montgomery converting convincingly from the resulting spot-kick.

Victory lifts Donald Jennow’s side to fourth in SWPL 1, leapfrogging Spartans and Rangers ahead of Sunday’s fixtures.
