#SWFL1Cup: Aberdeen Women and Renfrew through to semi-finals

Aberdeen and Renfrew await the draw for the Scottish Women’s League Division 1 Cup semi-finals on Wednesday after both enjoyed home wins.

Aberdeen hit Hamilton Academical U-23s for six in reaching the last four of the SWFL Division 1 Cup. Chloe Gover scored via the post and Carrie Doig swiftly added the second. After a break for a hailstorm, Gover doubled her tally, Amy Phillips hit home a looping half-volley and Johan Fraser made it 5-0 by half time. Deidre O’Riordan got number six and Erin Wilson netted a consolation for Accies.

Renfrew ran out 4-1 winners over Cove Rangers with two goals in each half. Kristy McGunnigle and Claire Rae struck but Ellen Forsyth replied 3 minutes after the interval to give Cove hope, only for Sammy-Jo Smith to hit back with a five-minute brace.

The outstanding Quarter Finals are Dunfermline Athletic v Celtic Academy (2nd April) and Hibernian U-23s v East Fife (tba) but the semi-final draw will be made this Wednesday.

There was a seven-goal thriller in the SWFL 2 Cup 2nd Round as Glasgow Girls U-23s came through 4-3 after extra-time at Lothian.

Clyde had a narrow 1-0 win at Rutherglen to reach the quarter-finals, while Dryburgh Athletic scored six of the eight goals in the tie at Kilwinning, where there was a hat-trick by Steffi Simson.

Meanwhile in league action, Inverness Caledonian Thistle beat third-placed Buchan 4-1 to jump up two places to fourth in SWFL 1 North and in Division 2 West/Central Bishopston are second after running out 7-1 winners at West Park United.
