Republic of Ireland international Jessie Stapleton has joined Sunderland on loan from West Ham for the 2024/25 season.

The 19-year-old defender joined the Hammers from League of Ireland side Shelbourne last summer, making two appearances before a loan spell with Reading.

Internationally, she was first capped by Ireland in 2022  and played in a Euro 2025 qualifier against Sweden this summer.

Stapleton told safc.com: “I’m delighted and I just can’t wait to get going now. I’ve only been here a couple of days so far but I’m delighted to just be here, properly settle in a hit the ground running.”

Head Coach Mel Reay said: “We are delighted to bring Jessie to the club. She is a ball-playing centre back with a seriously competitive spirit and as a senior international with Ireland, she brings a lot of valuable assets to the squad.”
