Burnley spanned two divisions to beat Stoke City 4-1 on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes, in which Kate Asher and Hannah Keryakoplis had both hit the woodwork for the Potters. Matt Pounder, Burnley FITC’s Head of Sport, tweeted his praise: Courage, character and composure from each and every player today! Exceeding all expectation and redefining what’s believed possible for this club!
Newcastle United accounted for Nottingham Forest, Megan McKenzie with two goals after the interval for a surprise win.
Plymouth Argyle pulled off a 3-1 win at higher division Gillingham, scoring twice in the extra half-hour. Zoe Cunningham scored just 2 minutes in and Jade Keogh equalised when her corner went straight in. Tash Knapman restored the Pilgrims’ lead and substitute Ezme Wells got their third goal.
Brislington’s Jodie Arkell struck a dramatic last-minute extra-time winner to defeat Swindon Town, despite being down to ten players after Georgia Vandries was sent off. Arkell and Polly Wardle had earlier scored for the Somerset team.
Hull City impressively held their hosts Derby County to a 1-1 draw, before bowing out 3-2 on penalties. Nicole Ledgister gave the Rams an interval advantage, with Nat Bell levelling.
Sporting Khalsa and TNS could not be separated in normal play, with the Saints needing an Emily Ridge equaliser to cancel out an early second half home penalty, before they won 4-1 in the shoot-out.
Chichester won a dramatic tie against C & K Basildon 4-2 after extra-time. Jess Lewry put City one up and Basildon had a player sent-off after only 16 minutes but not only levelled from the spot shortly after through Therese Addison but a Zoe Rushem goal sent them in 2-1 ahead at half-time. Jade Widdows made it 2-2 but City then had Lewry dismissed for a second caution. In extra-time, Emma Alexandra and Cherelle Khassal netted to send Chichester through.
Harlow Town did really well to take Luton Town to extra-time, before losing out 3-2 to a Jess McKay strike. Chloe Bassett got the opener for the underdogs, McKay and Kim Farrow turning the game round for the Hatters but Bennett’s late second forced extra-time.
AFC Wimbledon pushed Portsmouth but it was Pompey that reached the 3rd Round with a narrow 2-1 win. Isi Asplund’s effort saw the Dons go in ahead at half-time but Portsmouth hit back through Sammy Quayle and Amelia Southgate.
There was a shoot-out after Stevenage finished 1-1 with Ipswich after extra-time, with the Tractor Girls winning 3-0 from the spot. Amy Makewell had the Herts side ahead but Natasha Thomas replied on 69 minutes.
There was only one goal in it as MK Dons took on Cardiff City Ladies, with the Welsh side going through thanks to an 85th-minute winner.
Middlesbrough were a step to far for Farsley, the North East League side sent to an 8-1 defeat by the FA WPL Northern leaders. However, there was just the one goal between the teams at the break, Millie Bell scoring on 43 minutes. Emily Scarr hit a hat-trick, Holly Manders and substitute Bianca Owens bagged a brace each.
Huddersfield’s swept aside West Brom 7-0, with Albion’s Brodie Vincze suffering a dislocated kneecap. Emily Heckler and Brittany Sanderson netted first-half goals, Sarah Danby adding a hat-trick including a penalty, Kate Mallin also on target and Heckler then doubling her tally.
Liverpool Feds had to come from behind to progress past Nettleham. Lynsey Longhurst levelled soon after the restart, with Roisin Havelin and Abby Pope scoring for a 3-1 victory.
Bradford beat off cup giant-killers Long Eaton by five goals to nil but had to wait until the second period to make the breakthrough. Hannah Campbell got a couple, Laura Elford and Ellie White one each, plus an own-goal.
Blackburn were grateful to Saffron Jordan for her 43rd-minute opener, as Loughborough Foxes had foiled Rovers up to that point. Better was to come as Jordan went on to complete a hat-trick, while Kayleigh McDonald got their other goal.
New London Lionesses restricted Crystal Palace to a three-goal margin of victory, Megan Chandler, Stef Simmons and Gemma Bryan finding the target.
Fylde found their way through with a couple of goals against Guiseley. Fylde were denied by the crossbar twice but Sophie Charlton eventually found the net and Lauren Davies sealed the win in the dying minutes.
Leicester City Women came through 3-0 at Chorley, Nat Johnson and Leah Cudone putting them two goals up by the break. Leigh Dugmore’s penalty for City hit the woodwork and stayed out but Cudone later netted her second.
Keynsham avenged last week’s league defeat by Southampton WFC with a 2-1 result. Kerry Bartlett and Justine Lorton Radburn got their goals, while Sheree Bell-Jack replied.
Lewes lashed seven past Enfield, who conceded an own-goal before Rebecca Carter, Danielle Lane and Charlotte Owen took the score to 4-0 by the midway point. Kate McIntyre and Vicky Carleton then got on the scoresheet and Lane claimed her second.
QPR contained Charlton until 4 minutes before the break when Kit Graham’s header was diverted by a Rangers defender past her own keeper and then Charlotte Gurr buried a free-kick on half-time. Gurr converted a penalty and completed her hat-trick, before Kim Dixson rounding off the scoring.
Coventry hit West Ham for six, although Maz Gauntlett’s opener brought a penalty reply from the Hammers. Five different scorers saw them safely through in the second half; Keeley Davies, Alison Hall, Anna Wilcox, Helen Dermody and Laura Cooper all on target.
The 3rd Round draw will be made at 2pm on Monday, with ties set for Sunday 7th January 2018.
