Sheffield Wednesday will be competing in the North East Region Women’s League Premier Division for the 2020/21 season after a successful promotion application.
They won ten of their thirteen Division 1 South games last term and when leagues were halted they had a six-point lead over second-placed Wakefield Trinity.
With the FA deciding that last season would be null and void, the Owls “took the decision on the chin and had resigned themselves to another season in Division 1.”
However, they were invited to apply to move to the NERWFL Premier Division, for which applications were assessed on performance both on and off the pitch, as well as club structure and administration.
The club were recently able to declare: “We’re delighted to announce our application was successful!”
Alnwick Town go up from Division 1 North, although they were second behind Sunderland West End when the campaign was ended.
