Sarina Wiegman discussed her England future over the weekend, with the manager claiming no talks has been held regarding a new contract with the Lionesses.

Sarina Wiegman gives update on England future

England thrashed China on Saturday in a record-breaking performance at Wembley Stadium.

Sarina Wiegman was able to experiment with the England squad after half time as the Lionesses held an unassailable 5-0 lead.

Speaking after her 50th win for England, Wiegman provided an update on her current contract situation with the national team.

“We all know that we have until 2027,” Wiegman said on her current deal. “We haven’t had any clear conversations but I’m still really enjoying the job and I think the team is still enjoying that I am around. Let’s see what the future will bring.

“I am very relaxed about it. I don’t look forward and plan my career, I just know what I really enjoy and I want things to fit.”

With the World Cup coming up in 2027, England’s boss has at least one more major tournament to contend in before her contract expires.

Even if the Lionesses underperform in two years, it is hard to imagine their Dutch manager getting sacked.

Building a legacy with England

It is safe to say Sarina Wiegman is the most successful manger in England history – for both the men and women’s teams.

Wiegman won Euro 2017 with the Netherlands before becoming the Lionesses manager just three years later.

With England the veteran manager kicked her team into gear almost immediately. The Lionesses secured their first European Championship under their Dutch boss in 2022 and followed up in Switzerland this year.

Sarina Wiegman led England to back-to-back successes at the Euros

Wiegman has now won the last three editions of the Euros with two different nations.

The 56-year-old is certain to go down as an icon of women’s football when her career does come to an end, but she still has plenty of time to coach on the world’s biggest stage.

England’s boss will be hoping to add to her two European titles in the near future with the Nations League and World Cup coming up in the next two years.

Will Sarina Wiegman retire after England?

Although there are currently no discussions on the table for a new Sarina Wiegman deal, an offer is surely not too far away.

The England manager didn’t seem too concerned about her current deal when speaking after the China win and after such a successful 2025 she has no reason to be worried.

Although she is set to turn 57 next year, it seems unlikely that Wiegman will retire from coaching just yet.

Should she call time on her career USA and former Chelsea manager, Emma Hayes, has been tipped to take over the England job.

Hayes and Wiegman will go into the 2027 World Cup as two of the leading contenders to win the competition and the battle between two greats could be one for the ages.
