Chelsea began their home fixtures in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage with a Sam Kerr hat-trick in a 4-1 defeat of Paris FC at Stamford Bridge.
Group C: Paris Saint-Germain 0-1 Bayern Munich, Roma 3-0 Ajax
Group D: Hacken 2-1 Real Madrid, Chelsea 4-1 Paris FC
Lauren James set up Kerr for the opener but the scores were level at the break, after Thea Greboval’s header. Johanna Rytting Kaneryd crossed for Kerr to restore the lead three minutes after the restart and completed her treble with a chip from outside the box in the 55th minute. Sophie Ingle came off the bench to make it 4-1 in stoppage time.
Emma Hayes’ side have four points from two games but it’s Hacken to lead Group D following a 2-1 victory over Real Madrid. They fell behind to Signe Bruun’s early effort and levelled 50 minutes later through Rosa Kafaji, who then set up Saara Kosola to score the 76th-minute winner.
Roma lead Group C on goal-difference from Bayern Munich after sending Ajax to a 3-0 defeat. Valentina Giacinti struck twice in the first quarter of an hour, Manuela Giugliano getting the third two minutes after the interval.
Bayern got the only goal of the game away to PSG, Magdalena Eriksson finishing from Glodis Viggosdottir’s cross from close range, midway through the first half.
There are two more rounds of matches before Christmas, with Chelsea home to Hacken on 14 December, before visiting the Swedish side six days later.
