Sam Kerr broke Australia’s all-time goalscoring record during the Matildas’ 18-0 thrashing of Indonesia at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup.

The Chelsea striker had been one short of Tim Cahill’s record of 50 prior to the match but her five-goal haul saw her comfortably beat that, in what was her 105th appearance for her country.

Kerr told matildas.com.au after the game: “I want to have a legacy. I want this team to leave a legacy. We want this to be the time in where the Matildas and me as a player changed the way football is seen and the way women’s football is seen.”

Australia still have two group games to play in the Asian Cup in India, against the Philippines and Thailand.
