Reading stunned Liverpool by beating them 3-0 on their own turf, including a spectacular volley from ex-Red Fara Williams.
Williams returned to haunt one of her former sides, finding the top corner from 22 yards after the hosts failed to get any real distance on successive defensive headers.
Remi Allen – who earlier headed against an upright – had a simple finish at the far post after Siobhan Chamberlain’s parry ran across the six-yard box.
Caroline Weir curled an effort against the post early in the second half, as Liverpool fought to get back in the game.
But Beth England fired narrowly wide, Natasha Harding saw her shot turned round the post and Grace Coombs’ header was cleared off the line.
The points were made safe 17 minutes from time as the hosts lost possession from a throw in and Brooke Chaplen was swiftly played through to turn a defender and slot the ball past the keeper, who was well out of her ground.
For Reading it was a superb response to an opening weekend home defeat, for Liverpool it will have been a frustrating evening after beginning the campaign by winning the Merseyside derby.
Attendance: 481.
